Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter Licences Explained
Queensland splits plumbing licensing in two: an occupational licence for whoever fits the pipes, and a contractor licence for the firm that takes the job on. Both come from the QBCC.
Each trade holds a separate ticket:
Plumber
the licence covers plumbing work, minus anything needing its own endorsement.
Drainer
the licence covers below-ground drainage, again outside endorsed work.
Gasfitter
only a licensed gasfitter may do gas work, which spans installing, removing, altering, repairing, servicing, testing and certifying gas systems. Before a gas job begins, an owner can ask to sight that licence.
The occupational licence proves the individual holds the trade skills. The contractor licence proves the firm behind the job has the financial capacity and business training to run it.
